Manicfoot. I recovered from my stuttering at age 70 and I’m a female. Mine was resolved through psychotherapy to come to terms with an abusive childhood. At various times during my life I tried both speech and psychotherapy but it always proved fruitless. I can empathize with you for feeling defeated by your very occasional stutter. It surprises and disarms anyone who I was speaking to. I so remember my own feelings defeat and embarrassment all my life when I had to witness the shocked look on the face of someone who had never seen me stutter. ( my stutter was mild and subjective). It shocked me and my listener. Speech therapy can be effective at any age with the right therapist and enough motivation on your part. There’s an online program on YouTube by a therapist named McGill or Magill in the Uk. He has a very successful breath technique you can see the RESULTS on YouTube. I’ll post the link. It’s a story of stutterers in the UK who some couldn’t even say their name. At the end of four days they were talking to strangers in the street. The program uses breath control and desensitization. I found it after I gained full fluency but it totally impressed me. Please watch it. It’s amazing. The man who invented the program now has an online or video course. His name is McGill.
