we met through friends - my good friend from high school was celebrating a birthday at university, so I came down from mine to visit with a bunch of our friends. My now-wife was one of his Chemistry lab partners and so she came out to the pub with all of us and then to a club afterwards. I blocked every other word that night, but so be it and she was able to see past it. What actually turned her attention my way was when a bunch of my buds were speaking ill of our collective hometown, but I spoke up stutter and all, and listed several reasons why they were ultimately wrong and why it's a great place. Instead of trying to fully accept, why not try just even partially accepting? - as in, it's there, it's a pain, a cause for embarrassment and anxiety, but you'll try to work around it? You are not just a stutterer and remember, when you meet someone who's right for you at that particular time in your life, they'll see all the aspects of you that make you interesting/fun/desirable - a stutter isn't going to matter.
