Same here. Stuttering only really became a problem in my teens - I suspect because socialising in childhood is a lot more non-verbal (we just yelled and waved sticks around) but as we mature it's conversational skills that become integral to building relationships. I lost all my school friends for boring reasons and it's been pretty difficult making new ones as an adult now you can't just go "tag you're it". So... how about those... mortgages eh? Utility bills amiright?
