The author articulates their points well. And yes contextually it does seem like Amanda, 'singer with a speech impediment', is being made to look like a mere charity case. One that needs validation to finally accept herself as a stutterer. As a stutterer myself I can attest this type of cheerleading when you are fluent is rather off putting. I know when I'm doing well and the techniques utilized are working. Why make a point to praise me for it. To one of the authors points, you wouldn't feel the need to do that for someone else with a disability that did something beyond their limitations. The author does get on a soap box and preaches alot and brings semantics into play in regards to titling the video of Amanda. But you can see why the indignation is there. Stuttering is still not taken seriously, at least in a way that would provide comfortability in some respect. Bottom line there are alot of preconceived notions out there for just about everything. Stuttering is no exception. We all have to live with something that has an impact on our lives. So don't let people tell you how you should feel about it. It's up to you how you want to perpetuate yourself to the outside world. You can overcome but on your terms, not anyone else's.
