When I got chaptered out of the ARMY back in 2002 during the last week of Basic. I couldn’t find a job for 7 months. McDonald’s wouldn’t hire me even. My stuttering was at its worst and I had just gotten married and had a daughter on the way. I found a temp job working at a IAM’s pet food processing plant making canned dog and cat food. I busted my ass and learned everything. I took the test you had to take to get hired on and I passed the test, but they still would never hire me so I just stopped coming in. I got a job at a beef slaughter house and did that for a little bit until my Mother in Laws friend told me that I could get a job at Blue Bunny ice cream, but I would have to be a temp first. I did it and worked in the freezer cold storage warehouse stacking pallets of ice cream by hand in -20 below zero for 12 hours a day. This started my love for the cold storage industry and I constantly worked my ass off and did the job to the best of my ability. In 2013 I was promoted to be a Warehouse Manager. People perceive us as being stupid and dumb, but we’re neither of those adjectives. I still get people who assume I’m stupid and dumb, but when they finally work with me. They see that I’ll out work most people and I’m very competent in my job and my thought processes.
