Speech techniques failing when you try to use them is a common experience. It also doesn't mean it's your fault or that you're not practicing them hard enough. I've gotten away from techniques or focusing on fluency and have switched to stuttering comfortably and confidently. If you could find a speech therapy like that, I would encourage it.
