Interesting that you mention that. At one point I decided to remove any language that was tied to stuttering. I realized these words carried a significant amount of emotion and this emotion increased my speaking tension, even if ever so slightly. I also realized that these words supported the internal mental framework that supported my stuttering. So at that point, I stopped saying the words “stuttering, scanning, blocking, feared words”, etc and stopped talking about it entirely and also made it a point to refrain from reacting to any “stuttering situations” that occurred as much as I could. I literally acted like it didn’t happen, completely ignored it. I did this for many years while making it a point to speak a little bit softer and a little bit slower.
