I remember a classmate who said “You don’t want to talk, but I gotta give it to you, it’s a smart trick.” The despair I felt after that was palpable and the teacher went off on the kid thankfully. Only later did I feel anger. What I wouldn’t have given to be able to fully participate in a class discussion.
