I just discussed this with my wife because she’s a law professor in the US. She wanted me to tell you that law professors can be notoriously nasty people, and that they won’t be mean to just you but to others as well. She doesn’t like it and is actively trying to change this culture herself where she works, but many law professors feel the need to “haze” students so to “weed out” those who can’t take it. The reality is that you made it to law school, and as long as you can do the assignments and papers you should be fine, you just have to persevere through these assholes, which everyone else will have to do to in their own ways. You’re being graded on probably 2 exams and a paper with participation being a relatively low percentage of your grade. So I say if you want to be a lawyer then continue to fight and prove them all wrong. It’s a tough schooling, my wife would come home and cry sometimes after class. But if you push through you’ll make it. If they ever threaten to fail you because of your stutter then act like a lawyer and fight them. Go to the administration, get everything in writing, if you’re in the US then invoke your rights via the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and demand reasonable accommodations. They’ll probably still force you to do all the talking but they won’t be able to directly grade you based on your stutter. I’m usually more gentle with other people who stutter, but the reality is that going to law is about fighting and pushing through. When you come out the other side you’ll have a wide range of careers in law that don’t require heavy speaking. But during law school you have to be a fighter, so fight, take them on, show them that you can. Go watch legally blonde and get pumped!
