I felt like that a lot when I was a kid. Now, I'm really making an effort to be more social. My social and conversational skills are definitely behind those of my peers. However, I have been told that, despite the stutter, I have "excellent communication skills." I guess the lifetime of wanting to get any kind of speaking over with made me get straight to the point, and I don't tend to ramble. Listening, too, is definitely a strong-suit of mine, and I suspect of everyone here. Those who listen and try to understand others are a valuable asset. As stutterers, I feel like we, by and large, exhibit this trait. Stuttering is undoubtedly a disadvantage, but it does have some advantages. That being said, I can't deny that I feel most comfortable when I'm at home, alone, not needing to constantly monitor my speech.
