It's not some small inconvenience at all. And there is likely no cure during your lifetime. I'll never say this is easy, but ever since I started telling people, even strangers who just chuckled at me, that they just heard a stutter, I feel better, they learn about stuttering, and it's made me more fluent. Doesn't need to be a big speech, and definitely not an apology, just "Woah my stutter acted up there" or "Yeah I have a hard time speaking" or "Just so you know, that's what a stutter sounds like, there's nothing I can do about it" and then be on your way. I think I say all this because it will be more legitimized the more people know about it. It's small steps, but what isn't? For now, at almost 40, I'm tired of feeling like I'm adjusting myself for the world. Make them react to who you are and educate along the way when you feel like it.
