I'm in a long distance relationship with a man who has quite a severe stutter. I do not stutter myself, nor have I previously in my life known a person who stutters. We had been friends online for years, chatting and playing games, but he didn't tell me about his stutter until just before we got together. I can only imagine how anxious he must have felt about telling me in the first place, however... My reaction went from surprise to acceptance in a matter of seconds, because even though he might have a bad stutter, I know- and love him, just as he is. A charming, handsome, intelligent, kind, and loving goober, with a wonderful sense of humor, and a natural talent for writing. I cannot possibly begin to understand the hardships he's gone through in life due to his speech impediment, but I can clearly see the emotional scars that remain - social anxiety, depression, and lacking self confidence to name just a few. However, in my eyes these scars do not make him weak. In fact, this man is probably the strongest person I've ever met. To those of you who stutter, who are anxious about revealing the fact that you have a speech impediment to someone you love or care about, remember that if they truly love you back, they will love all of you. Just as you are, and they will do so without hesitation. That's my input. Thank you.
