Hi! I am in a similar situation. Over the summer the only job I could find was basically a receptionist and I did housing tours for my college. I can’t speak loud or fast because it makes my stutter worse. I explained to my co workers and it was the first time I had support like that in an office. For housing tours I was paired with an extrovert who would introduce the halls and I would do more one on one interactions so I wouldn’t have to speak loud. The phone situation was rough though and I had multiple people hang up on me since they “couldn’t understand me” and I had some people say stuff like “honey, go grab someone who speaks better”. I definitely felt like saying f you to them but couldn’t. Stuff like that has always made me doubt if I’m the ‘weak link’ on the team. I’m a junior in Industrial Engineering and my profs keep on saying that great communication is the most important part of the job. I’m unsure if I’ll be able to make it as an industrial engineer since I can’t speak clearly. Are your IT coworkers supportive? Do y’all find that stuttering hurts your chance at a good job?
