The author of the book is a person who stutters and his approach is aimed at reducing the psychological struggling with your stutter with the help of REBT based tools. The end goal of this book is to accept your stuttering and yourself unconditionally. He recommends the following steps to accept your stutter: - Acknowledge your stutter for what it is, it exists and it's a reality. It won't go away merely because you refuse to acknowledge it. - Recognize that it couldn't be any other way. Given all the known and unknown causes of stuttering, and given your genetic, enviromental and psychological history, you have no choice in the matter. You must stutter. However with hard work and practice you _might_ be able to reduce the severity and frequency of your stuttering. - Acknowledge that you don't have to speak fluently. You have a right to stutter. Give yourself permission to speak disfluently. - Recognize that your stuttering is not completely bad. Some people might find it endearing and sometimes you might get special treatment because of it. A darkcloud sometimes has a silver lining. - Recognize that stuttering is not fatal. It won't kill you. Despite your disfluency you are able to live a full and rich life. - Recognize that there are worse things in life than stuttering. - Appreciate all that you can do despite your stuttering. In my opinion it's a great book and useful read for a PWS.
