I agree with everything you say except for lower you expectations. If you put in the work on yourself , you deserve to find the best. I agree to being humble , but shoot for the stars , if you fail so what. You tried your best and went after what you wanted. That way you can live without the regret of not trying / knowing what could have been if you'd put in some effort.
