Do most stutterers talk perfectly fine if completely alone in a room? This is my case and wondering if its the same for others. Been stuttering since I was a kid... now in my early 30's with a child. My wife doesn't even know i've struggled with stuttering my whole life. I think mine comes from more of a nervous position, If I talk on the phone to strangers, someone of higher authority or if I say something then someone doesn't hear me and says What? I completely lock up and can't start a sentence and remember in school I couldn't even say my first name. But if im in a room alone talking to myself im completely fine its just so weird to me so this alone gives me hope I can get rid of stuttering at least in my uncomfortable situations. So I recently moved states and the only job I could get at first was a sales job... literally knocking door to door and talking to completely strangers. First week was hell just knocking on doors and trying to get your pitch out, sometimes people answering the door and youre just standing there looking them in the face just trying to get words out. After about 2 weeks I didnt even really stutter anymore and It was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders that I realized I can finally talk to people the way I always wanted to, it just takes practice and I think most importantly confidence in my case and not giving a fuck what people think of you. Just being calm, relaxing, and talking slow at first really helped me get to where I am now. You just have to keep talking every chance you can get, its like learning to talk.
