Cured my Muscle Tension Dysphonia this week This is not a post I'm happy to share but I wouldn't feel right leaving it in the dark either. In case anyone recognizes clues from my journey that are useful. But this is a specific set of conditions, specific to me as well. Don't think I'm spreading hope about it in general. My specific reason for stuttering is laryngeal dysphonia, a sub of Muscle Tension Dysphonia. I'm 33 and have been stuttering to some degree since 5 years old. It got really bad around 25ish. I've lost job interviews, relationships, and just basically not being able to live at all. It takes a lot of work to say my own name etc. Any T, D, A sort of syllables where the sound starts with some part of the air pipe or tongue closed. Either I'm too tired to push enough air up to overcome the blockage, or the muscles won't relax and separate. It's been a long hell. I used to want to be a rapper/singer/actor in my teen years and even was lucky enough to push myself through competitions, tech talks at conventions. So being in my 30s now and knowing how much of my life I've spent being virtually mute, kind of hurts, but I'm just happy to have figured out how to break out of it. I would choose the ability to speak over having billions for sure. So! What cured me. I can't give advice on supplements. But let's say I watched a lot of Dr. Berg on YouTube and spent time thinking about vitamins and dosage. If you dig into my post history revolving nootropic subreddits you might find some clues. I quit smoking, vaping, caffeine, and anything at all that would give me dopamine comfort. This activated my chest and internal organs, lighting a proverbial metabolic fire that gave enough fuel to push up speech. I went from almost passing out from saying the word "left" -- to being able to rap fast and just feel normal. But yeah, it's a deep deep science. My specific realm of stuttering is related to "the Valsalva mechanisim". I'll leave a reference to a research paper if anyone relates to that variant. Not sure if I can share specific links. >STUTTERING AND THE VALSALVA MECHANISM: A HYPOTHESIS IN NEED OF INVESTIGATION WILLIAM D. PARRY Member of the Philadelphiu, Pennsylvania Bar and the National Stuttering Project For me, the pipes opened up when I let go of the very last crutch: vaping and caffeine. And providing enough nutrients to the body. My vitamin stack might look like a meal to most people. But that's what I believe I need. Not an all-in-one multi-vitamin. Even if this doesn't help you at all, I hope the terms Berg and B1 give you some edutainment on YT.
