I also give an alternate name in case I can’t say my own name, which I have a really hard time with as well and I don’t want to deal with the whole looking like an idiot or the “ha ha they forgot their own name” thing (why is that always the first thing that comes to peoples minds?). The trick to this is to pick one ahead of time and stick with it, that way you only have one to remember and aren’t trying to think about which one you gave who. Also if you have close friends who you trust, tell them about your name thing. If we were out somewhere and some one referred to me with my alternate name my friends knew to just roll with it.
