We watched My Cousin Vinny in high school and that scene was really hard to get through! I fully empathized with the lawyer's struggles, and from my perspective it was essentially a dramatic scene. It was the first time I ever saw someone "like me" in that way, and it reflected a lot of my issues with oral presentations and other speech-related events. But everyone else in the classroom was laughing so hard (and looking over at me, because obviously they'd heard me stutter a lot before)... it really made me feel like I was completely alone in dealing with my disability, and no one else would ever take me seriously.
