Mindfulness and Stuttering? This was the exact question I asked my mother when she wanted me to become more spiritual. She used to be a yoga teacher and advised, when I was younger, to practice mindfulness and becoming more aware of my surroundings. Obviously, being somebody who had a severe stutter, I dismissed it quickly as I had bigger issues to deal with. Without realising that practicing mindfulness would have a tremendous impact on my mental wellbeing. We call stuttering a physical problem - yet it affects us mentally too. It affects our confidence/self-esteem and makes us think negatively about social situations and the world around us. This I can definitely say is true from past experience. ANYWAY, back to mindfulness. The principle is simple. You put your focus on everything around you. On your breathing, the feeling in your hands, the ground underneath you as you're walking...everything around you. You can go even further and tell yourself "I am breathing in. I am breathing out". Honestly, the difference you feel is incredible. However, this is something you need to practice long term. You'll feel benefits in the short term but to make 'em stick you need to keep practicing it. I speak about this a little bit in my newest video. Taken last week when I went to Belgium to disconnect for a few days. Check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEN5OSNAzTQ
