I understand that blocking for 5 seconds might be a lot for you. It is for some, for others it it not. I have myself blocked in front of many people, during large lectures, presentations etc. in the moment, I used to feel defeated. I still do a little bit but to a much lesser degree. I’ve done it so many times now, that it is just how things are, just how I am and I honestly couldn’t care less. Sometimes people even say they word for me, but I continue stuttering through it to maintain my agency and my ‘identity’ in the world. I also used to think that people would see me as a weirdo because of it. But hey, who cares. I am sure that a lot of other people think it cool that you even dared answer a question knowing you might stutter. Hell, most people wouldn’t even dare to speak in public even if they don’t stutter. So, just continue being active in lectures even though you stutter. The lecturer will love you for raising your hand and participating in the lecture and you, if you repeatedly face the fear of speaking in public, will eventually get much better at it. That is at least how it has worked for me. To sum up; keep answering questions, keep saying what you want to say and don’t let what others might think discourage you. You can do it, my dude!
