hi there! i have a severe stutter too (30% fluency on avg) and it gets really exacerbated whenever i’m put on the spot or in a position where its like “all eyes are on me”, even if i’m comfortable with the topic of the conversation. I’m not sure if you’re in the US, but if you’re comfortable with it you should absolutely go to your professor (or send an email) and explain why their behavior was not okay in the class and what your needs are. i can’t even begin to count the number of times i’ve needed to say “excuse you but i’m speaking now” or “do NOT interrupt me, ✨thank youuuu✨”, and it wears down on you the more it happens. have i gained a little bit of a reputation for being spicy? Yes, but most people understand that i’m a nice person who loves to help others until my BIGGEST boundary is violated by some idiot who hasn’t worked as hard to get to where I am in life. you deserve to be fully present and accepted as a student who’s paying to be in a psych course. as cliche as it sounds, “fake it till you make it” with confidence (even on the days where you want to hide in a bathroom and sob until your next lecture) will set you up for a little more success. It takes time and a lot of hard work, but after I began practicing it I really did begin to see a change in how people interacted with me and how I’m treated in general as a student and/or as a professional. my dm’s open if you wanna talk, keep on going you got this 🫶🏻
