Do you feel differently when you stutter in front of different genders/social groups? I’m a woman who stutters, and I would say I definitely feel more/less comfortable stuttering in front of certain people than others. For example, when I stutter in front of the types of girls that are clearly super pretty, popular, and confident, I just feel like “ahhhhhh fuck fuck this is so embarrassing” I don’t know if they are actually judging me, but since I view them as so much cooler than me, I just get sooo embarrassed stuttering in front of those types of girls. But when I’m talking to girls who have more of a quirky personality or are neurodivergent, I feel super comfortable stuttering and I honestly stutter a lot less because I feel so comfortable. I don’t talk to men all that often because I’m kinda shy around men, but when I do I feel like they often tend to be very supportive with their body language compared to women for some reason. Like they will often nod or smile or be EXTREME with the eye contact. Woman more often will just seem to ignore it. I don’t really mind the way men act when I stutter I think it’s kind of sweet, but it can make me feel kind of vulnerable. What are your experiences with stuttering with different genders/social classes?
