I totally understand. I also didn’t take the med route. What has helped me is continuous breathing. Every moment I can i do diaphragmatic breathing. I push my stomach out and hold the breath, and release with talking. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but this type of breathing allows you to create an easy onset (moving your lips slowly to create the letter without a block). This type of breathing helps a lot, but it takes practice.
