To summarize your post: * In 2022, you have achieved a state of fluency, which you pointed out, was likely because you relied on self-confidence * In 2023, your self-confidence dropped, and you relapsed and stuttering returned I think that there are 100s of different ways to define "confidence", some definitions of which have the opposite meaning. In my opinion.. "needing a confident feeling or thought" to move one's speech muscles during a trigger, is a maladaptive fluency demand. Even if this has led to a state of fluency in the year 2022, this fluency demand only limits speech performance (such as, relapse when you don't experience confidence, constant need for monitoring for triggers, confidence; impairing executive functions). Instead, you can try my strategy, to initiate articulation without relying on any demand, without blaming anything (e.g., not blaming a lack of confidence), without reassurance-seeking (e.g., without needing techniques or tricks) to initiate articulation. In other words, move speech muscles immediately during a trigger without waiting out certain standards/conditions/demands/techniques, without relying on confidence or anything else, without needing to reduce fear or increase confidence first. Don't link confidence to speech performance. Don't reduce the trigger (like speaking without confidence) when moving speech muscles - to desensitize.. don't avoid this uncomfortable feeling, don't apply avoidance responses to avoid the initial speech plan regarding exactly how and what you wanted to say
