I know that atypical antidepressants have been known to help stutterers. The one I can remember is Abilify. After I was prescribed Abilify, my lifelong stuttering ended! Of course, I was also undergoing psychotherapy by the prescriber to deal with an abusive childhood.Abilify does not cause addiction. Every person has his own chance of side effects or none at all. I am elderly and had to stop the Abilify after several years but that was 5 years ago and I’ve remained fluent without any of the little tricks stutterers use to help with fluency. I’ll probably never know if it was the psychotherapy or the Abilify, maybe both, but I stuttered from age 5 to 70 and b came totally fluent. Good luck. There is also current research into a specific new drug undergoing clinical trials at the NIH. I’ll include a link. Good luck being prescribed Abilify. It’s not the type of drug that causes dependence.
