My story with stuttering and what I learned Hi everyone, This is the first time I write about my stutter I just joined reddit and i was amazed by how many people experiencing themselves to this community and i decided to write my story too. Nothing new here, my stutter started around when i was 6-7 years old i had stutter before but it was barely notable. I’m 29 now and i still have this issue. Sadly i didn’t do anything about it which is wrong but i decided to start and whatever i can do to at least try to control it. I started my therapy with a specialist and it’s helping to talk to a specialist about it which i wasn’t convinced before, however I started about 2 months a go and i only attended 3 sessions and after I felt confident to try my own method’s - [ ] I started reading out loud everyday for one hour. On thing I noticed is my voice became clearer and i managed to lower/calm my stuttering. English is not my native language so 30 minutes is Arabic and the other 30 is English. Do this if you speak more than one language if you don’t it’s fine just keep it to one hour. Before you start reading take a deep breath for 2 minutes and keep in mind to ready slowly. Benetalk app will help you control your reading speed and will tell you how many words you speak per minute and also to track your reading quality. Try reading poetry too and sing it while reading will improve your voice and will make your tongue lighter. - [ ] Talk to your self in the mirror or to the front camera just for a few minutes and make it a daily habit. - [ ] Always try to speak slowly whoever you talk to. - [ ] Meditation in the morning will help you control your anxiety. - [ ] Going to a therapist will help you a lot there is an app “Stamurai” where you can speak to a therapist online. - [ ] Doing nothing about it will only increase your anxiety and therefore increase your stuttering. You have to do whatever you can do and insist on doing it everyday will help you control your stuttering. Try these small steps and then start involving on the situations that you will likely stutter. Start the easy ones and then go to the hard level step-by-step. Stuttering have no direct treatment. I regret doing nothing about my stuttering because i was convinced that it will go away. Sadly it didn’t. Now by trying these methods i gained my confidant again because i only start facing my problem. We have to do these things to speak normally unfortunately we don’t have the fluency like everybody else. So we need to practice to improve our fluency. Thank you for reading and please share any thoughts if you have one.
