I lived with a family in Spain. My stutter is significantly worse in Spanish. Like no fluency break throughs. This was the only time in my life ever that I spoke less/would avoid speaking for fear of stutter. I think people just thought I didn’t really speak Spanish that well and excused it. My homestay family was very understanding. If you are in a country speaking a second language, I think the overall assumption is just that you’re not very good at that language. Frustrating in its own way but oddly nice in another.
