Certainly a stutterer should refrain from applying at a call center or any other customer-facing role (depending on how severe their stutter is). However, I have been rejected outright and discriminated against for several “back office” roles where my stutter would not have impacted my ability to perform the core functions of the job (or at most would have only required very reasonable accommodations), presumably only because my stutter made the hiring manager “uncomfortable”. It’s not an even playing field. And what sucks even further is that social security disability benefits here in Canada are a joke - you can’t subsist on the paltry amount. So essentially if you’re disabled, you’re effectively doomed to a life of poverty. Really, the only “organization” that takes pride in hiring people with disabilities is the government - but the problem is that since so many people apply for government roles, landing a job comes down to luck.
