I have a suggestion for you: instead of saying your name, you can for example show the person you're talking to your credit card (your name should be written on it right?) or even your ID on the pretext that your name is often misheard because it's very long (as you said). I personally always do it this way in order to avoid those awkward moments in some situations especially when other people are in the room. It might be stupid but not stupider than getting laughed at by strangers imo. I hope I helped a little. Best of luck
