I would rather seem like someone very stupid than someone with a stutter

I would rather seem like someone very stupid than someone with a stutter All my life I have been treated as my stutter is something bad. No one wants to listen to it. It's stupid. So I have this tactic where I go "...uhm...uhm.." until I finally get the words out instead of trying to get it out by force. "Hiding" it sort of. It's weird when someone asks me a simple question or something. "Excuse me, do you know what time it is? -Let me check. It's... uhm....uhm...uh, five past three" This might be because I also have social anxiety so other's opinion about me is like the most important thing ever. Do you try to hide your stutter or do you just don't care?
