I am a speech pathologist and an expert in brain-based teaching and learning. I found stuttering to be a curse which greatly upended my life. I have spent over 20 years researching how the brain learns. The main reason for my research was to help me overcome my significant learning disability. Eventually I found the answer to my learning disability. During my research I asked myself if I could use my expertise on brain-based learning to overcome my stuttering. Eventually I was able to find the answer by researching and studying fluent speakers as to why they do not stutter. They have the same speech mechanisms as I do so why do I stutter and they don’t. I discovered the answer in the Valsalva response. Once I understood how to breathe for speech I became fluent. I sometimes don’t remember me as a stutterer. Everyone has to take their own path to fluency. I strongly believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel for anyone who seeks answers as to why they stutter. It has been a life changing experience for me and I have never had a relapse.
