Personally, I got off psych meds and after, found a great pOdcast from a SLP/PWS. I learned a few very important things - one was that talking is a fine motor skill, and like them all, gets messier the faster you go. He also explained the following : if you are speaking fast because of fear of speaking (and want to get it over with!), then starting slowly will help. Also, use phrasing (similar to how Barack Obama speaks - regardless of your politics, his speaking voice is clear and pleasant). This other magical reminder has helped my blocks reduce in intensity, duration and volume by 95% for a whole year : *Look and Let. It. Out* I was especially happy for your progress bc I think I remember suggesting to you to try beginning speaking slowly. Are you able to try making eye contact or try voluntary repetitions or disclose? Here’s seemingly bad, but actually GOOD news- you will always have repetitions and prolongations. *But ever speaker has them occasionally, they aren’t limiting, and no one who matters really cares.* Regarding peoples reactions - it’s not because “ewww…. You stutter…”. It’s because hard silent blocks are *very* confusing to listeners. How can they possibly know what’s going on?? Also, Their facial expressions absolutely rip at our hearts. Disclosing will make a huge difference. “Hey, I stutter, so sometimes repeat and sometimes have unexpected pauses. Im kind of like a DJ, spinning records” CREDIT FOR AWESOME DJ REFERENCE GOES TO RECENT POSTER HERE!! What’s your name?
