Making your own style of speaking I made a post recently regarding tips that I have used to be more fluent. The 3rd point I made was regarding to speaking with more intonation and inflection in your voice. I’ve been thinking more about this and I think I have an interesting thought on why this works so well. Removing your monotone voice and replacing it with a much more vicarious and adaptive voice really helps wonders. When you change how you speak, your voice itself becomes more interesting and you in some sense create your own “style” and “sound” of speaking. How I view this is as follows.... 1. When you attempt speaking with more intonation and inflection, you will start changing the way you approach speech. You’ll begin to view speaking as more of an “art” in which you can rhythmically convey sounds and emotions you couldn’t before. It makes speaking somewhat exciting and enticing 2. Specifically, at least for me, when I focus on this “art”, throughout my sentences I am elongating some vowels, elongating certain consonants, and adding more pauses and changes throughout my speech. So in a certain sense I am “stuttering” throughout my speaking, but it is a controlled “stutter”in which is used to make my speaking more unique and interesting, 3. Now when I approach conversations I essentially don’t have to worry about stuttering, as a minor form of stuttering is built into how I speak which really alleviates much of my stress with conversations. Sorry that this is long, but it’s a little difficult to explain. Please let me know what you think about these ideas!
