I'm 48 and have stuttered my entire life. I think I've only met 2 people my entire life who also stutter. Anyone else who told me they used to stutter, did so only as children and was probably a phase. When I was a teenager, those adults who stuttered as children always told me I'd outgrow it. Thinking about it now ...my parents probably thought this was true...and that I would outgrow it as well...and didn't put as much effort to keep me in therapy. It's probably why I've avoided it the rest of my life too.
