I personally don’t think trying to express your words in a way so that you don’t stutter is harmful. If anything, I’ve found that it has increased my useful vocabulary and has made me verbally quicker on my feet. That being said, I’m sure this is different for different people, and that for some people it is harmful in the long run. It works for me, and helps my mental health, so I do it. However, I’ll note that if I have to say a word that I can’t seamlessly think of a synonym for, I calmly say it and move on. I just think it’s a useful tool to have in one’s toolbox. I don’t know of any good synonyms for ‘remember’ that don’t begin with ‘re’, but I personally find ‘recall’ easier to say sometimes, if that helps at all.
