I don't know the specifics, but doing certain movements or actions when stuck are pretty common. If she started doing them suddenly, maybe it's a stress reaction? I'd suggest seeing if you can get her on Anxiety medication if she isn't already, ask her if you could fill in words if she starts to stutter, and bring her to an NSA event (can't personally verify, but I've heard they're good).
