A story about a story I heard about a "mind blowing" stutterer... So, I study graphic design at university and some of us got the chance to go to a well renowned design firm and hear professionals talk about life and work as a designer. During the talk one of the guys talking who was a senior creative director, told us about another designer in the firm whose presentations were "mind blowing" and gave him "goosebumps". The senior director said that this guy had a stutter, but when he did presentations he would really take his time to talk and would pause and keep eye contact with his audience. When he stammered with a word he would pause, breathe, and slowly come out with the word or pause and calmly say "hold on, let me find another word". The senior director said that this guy had given the best presentations he had ever seen because of how he takes his time, remains eye contact, carefully selects his words and how he lets his words breathe. So here's me, sitting at this talk the whole time nervous about my possible stuttering and blocking, and becoming a bit discouraged about whether I could survive as a graphic designer at such a high level, no bullshit firm. Hearing this story was so encouraging for me, and made me see that I could definitely survive and thrive in this environment, and even use my speech problems to my advantage. Hopefully this can help out some of you guys a little (if any of this made sense). I wish he told us that guys name!
