People ask me if I forgot my name or just laugh awkwardly all the time, and I know it's just a defense mechanism from feeling uncomfortable more times than not. Just recently, I was on the phone with Airbnb customer service and the operator wasn't being rude or anything, but I just couldn't get any words out. My girlfriend, who also stutters just not quite as severely, had to take the phone from me and finish the call. So, I guess if I'm not too out of breath after just saying what I need to, I'll usually mention my stutter and people are a lot nicer.
