As a fellow semi stutterer (I instantly knew what you meant lol) The slow pauses are actually taught in speech therapy and I don't use them for the exact reason you stated, yes they work and are helpful but I did speech therapy as a preteen...did not go well. I'm shy and introverted typically and my friends, family, and coworkers know sometimes I'm great and sometimes it's gonna take a couple tries BUT back to dating seriously the internet I've met Bfs on tinder and okcupid and we text for a bit then if we decided to meet up I tell them before the date. "I have a stutter and nerves can make it worse, you still up for meeting" blah blah blah. I've been told (not by dates however) that this is a little bait and switch and I really don't think so, it lets you get to know me a bit before the term "retard" enters their brain...they know I've got something going on that they like and typically won't care. At least this has been my experience, we care a lot more than they do
