Being open about stuttering was a huge turning point for me. I went to this two week intensive course at AIS in NYC where part of the program involved us interviewing our family and friends about my stuttering. It honestly felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulder, because it was something I felt shame about and hid for most of my life. Going from a "covert" stutterer to someone who allows myself to stutter openly has allowed me to have so much less anxiety and advance further in my career. So yea, you don't have to feel awkward. You don't have to say anything about the characters in films stuttering either. Just allow yourself to be yourself.
