A change in perspective about Stuttering This is something I want to hear but I don't hear often so I'll say it to those it might help. We are a part of a huge chunk of population who stutter. Because of easy access to exceptional people performing in movies, tv shows, YouTube and viral videos, we have assumed the perfect speach is the only solution to our stutter. But it's really not. It's okay to stutter because from what I've realized, it's quirky. I'm a guy and most girls I've dated with found my stutter quirky and sexy, and loved that it made me a great listener. We are also a community and I'm glad we have this platform on Reddit to express how we feel and help each other out. Idk about you guys but I really don't want to change my stutter. I have some amazing moments, found some great people and did things in my life which I'm sure i wouldn't have if i didn't have stutter. I think we need to let go of the stigma with our stutter and love ourselves. I know it can be harsh when people bully us. Makes us feel dumb and idiot. But i know for a fact that if there is one bully, there are 10 other people who see us past our stutter, and some even love our stutter. Our society has gone past fat shaming, body shaming, it's time we promote the stop of stutter shaming. I think we can really benefit if there is more awareness about stutter. Some people are genuinely not aware of the condition and can sometimes unintentionally come off rude and insensitive when they mean well. Sometimes parents push too hard to get rid of stutter from their child that it doesn't translate well and cause the child to hate stuttering. I'm sorry I started from somewhere and dragged the message to something entirely else. It's just, we can change our perception about stutter and make it our power. Why not take advantage of social media in this day and age when people are more cautious and sensitive towards the emotions of other people. We can spread positivity about stuttering and maybe influence big budget cinemas into representing more people with stuttering to promote the positive image and make people aware of this condition. I'll say it again, we are a strong family. ❤ And I'm here for anyone who needs to talk his/her problems out.
