I've only met one or two stutterers during my life. Many people who have speech impediments are only afflicted by mild fluency problems in certain situations. I, on the other hand, have stuttered my entire life and would classify my case as semi-severe (as in it's easier for me to use my phone and text what i'm going to say in most instances).
