Why not try it out? If it works, you've found something, and if it doesn't, you may be able to cross it off the list of possible therapies. Perhaps not as relevant as some of the other experiences below, but in 2003 (early 20s) I started listening regularly to a self-hypnosis tape for stuttering using guided meditation and positive affirmations and while I feel asleep often (or was under hypnosis I suppose) I remember feeling a big blast of warm, happy feelings whenever the ending music came on after 'coming up' from the 'hypnosis state' (seriously better than some recreational drugs I've tried). Looking back, I think it was helpful and improved speech in the short-term but mostly boosted overall confidence - I was pretty low for a long time.
