I work in the hospitality industry as a front desk manager and I am a female who stutters. I’ve stuttered since I was a child and although it was much worse as a child I still struggle at the age of 23. You can imagine the problems that go in a hotel and how “guest facing” it is. So my stutter was showcased daily through regular conversation. I used to cry after hanging up the phone because I could not tell guests inquiring over the phone what the hotel address was. Unnerved and hopeless in the daily. But one day I just told myself to get over it bc this is my life and the way I speak. It goes in and out. I have months where I barely have a stutter and then some months I can barely say my name in public. One time a guest heard my stutter and he told me about a book he had read and how it helped him as he was in corporate America and his speech held him back for a long time as well. I am so glad I met him. His speech wasn’t cured, but I could barely tell when he stammered. The book helped me as well here and there. Since meeting that man both of my brothers who also stutter have asked about the book. Long story short as I got off topic: Girl who stutters has two brothers who stutter as well. I have never met another female stutterer irl or heard one speak online.
