I think you are correct since most of the well spoken stutterers I have met ,have a significantly visible stutter and people know that they stutter.Almost all of them are very public and social individuals and are known to be well read,efficient people. Whereas I usually try to hide my stutter and in that way I usually end up saying very less and although people don't know that I stutter,they also think that I am dumb and inarticulate.
