Definitely. There's no such thing as a true synonym, every word has slightly different meanings. For example 'warrior' and 'soldier' are considered synonyms, but you would think slightly different about an individual described as either. So, for example, when I'm struggling with the s-, so I say warrior instead that's not really what I wanted to say. But it's the only real option.
