I love this mindset. Through university my stutter got significantly worse because I /wanted/ to speak fluently and confident, just to prove I could be an effective communicator. I could make all the eye-contact in the world and use hand gestures, but the stutter got worse and worse. Ultimately decided “I’ll just keep putting myself in positions till I make it work.”. In the end, just developed worsened anxiety because the goal of fluency seemed further away after each presentation. It wasn’t until speech therapy I learned effective communication isn’t synonymous with fluency. We’re people who stutter, it’s gonna happen. Talk to people because you want to talk to so you can share and gain knowledge/relationships/insight. Extroverts inherently want to connect with people, so focus on wanting to talk and connect, not on doing it flawlessly.
