There's no way to answer the likelihood question. Though there is certainly a genetic component, i.e. it does run in families, it isn't like eye color or something else that can be predicted with a punnet square. ​ I think this is a touchy subject for many. I have a good friend who also stutters who absolutely refuses to have children because he thinks it cruel or harmful even to chance putting a child through what he went through. I don't want to detract from his experiences. He's certainly suffered in ways I never did. But, to me, making the choice of not having kids because they might stutter precludes the possibility that they might stutter and do great things, for themselves and others. It's not a zero sum game.
