Sadly, they'll never truly be able to understand completely, but you can certainly talk to them and discuss it. Being open about it might actually have a positive effect and cause you to be more fluent. When that fear of vulnerability is gone, it gets better. Ironically, that's where 95% of stuttering originates from.
